Strange Days Indeed

As I sit and write this today, my students are out of school, businesses are closed, events have been cancelled and plans are on hold. Never have I seen such strange and surreal days. My way of coping is to keep my hands busy. I pulled out a forgotten weaving project and set to work. It relaxed me and took my mind off the news. Eventually, as I worked, I began to wonder…. “what all the artists will do?”

During times of crisis, unrest, and uncertainty, many of us find solace in painting, writing poetry, sculpting, knitting, music, drawing or just sitting and day dreaming.

As the days unfold and you find yourself with time stretching out in front of you, pick up a pencil, or paint brush and put down to paper your experience. Use art as a way to express your feelings, record what you are witnessing and maybe just to pass the time.

I will be using this platform to post art based projects for my students and anyone else who feels like they need a creative outlet for these strange days.

In the meantime, look at what happened in Italy. I think it’s a perfect example of how art finds a way through even the toughest barriers.

Art wins.
