The winner of the 2019 Monster Mash Dash t-shirt/design contest, is Veda C. Judges chose her poster because of the cool graphic and attention to detail. Veda is an 8th grader who puts a lot of time into her art work.
Contests can feel a little exclusive and even stressful at the middle school level, but I’ve created an event that tries to minimize that.
Here’s how it works: All students in the art program create a design. The lesson focuses on good graphic design/advertising in art. Student can then opt in to the design contest if they wish. Submissions are hung in the school lobby-without names. The judging is blind so that popularity or favoritism doesn’t interfere. The contest is open to all students and students can submit multiple entries.
Judging happens after the event and several categories of prizes are given out from runners up to honorable mention, to the people’s choice. Ms Janenne (founder of the event) ultimately chooses the final winner and that artists will have their design on the official t shirt.
Here are a few photos of the amazing artwork that made final selections so hard.
